11.6-Inch Widescreen Display

The 11.6-inch LED-backlit display (1366 x 768 pixels) presents true 16:9 aspect ratio with high-def resolution and fast 8ms (millisecond) response time for high-quality media playback as well as increased readability in low-light conditions. And the LED backlight technology is 33 percent more energy efficient than standard CCFL LCD screens.

Power-Sipping Processor

Newly designed from the ground up, the Intel Atom Z520 uses a 45nm (nanometer) design structure with new hafnium-infused circuitry–which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors–to conserve even more energy and give you more time away from the wall outlet. The Intel Atom Z520 provides a 1.3 GHz CPU speed with a 533 MHz front-side bus (FSB) and 512 KB L2 cache–which uses just 2 watts of power. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system’s performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.) It supports Intel’s 64-bit computing architecture, which can allow the use of extended virtual and physical memory with compatible 64-bit software, as well as Intel’s Hyper-Threading technology for speedier multitasking.

The Multi-Gestured Acer Aspire One

A Multi-Gesture Touchpad allows you to pinch, flick and swirl your fingers across the touchpad for more natural photo and video viewing as well as intuitive navigation of websites. The Multi-Gesture Touchpad enables you to scroll, zoom in and out and flip through web pages, photos, spreadsheets and more.

The TouchPad can also be disabled with a one-touch button, eliminating accidental cursor movement with palms and wrists when using an external mouse.

I’ve always been an Acer fan, but last Christmas, they couldn’t compete with the 10″ MSI’s (U100’s). I bought 6 of the MSI netbooks and set them up for friends and family. They are still a very nice netbook. But this new 11.6″ Acer is NICE! I don’t detect any lack of speed compared to the MSI. The keyboard is nicer and bigger and the trackpad works well (although the Logitech Nano Mouse is the only way to go). This one comes with XP, which is no-brainer. (sorry, but Vista doesn’t belong on netbooks). There’s a LOT of unnecessary software that loads at startup (probably the reason for the speed complaints, besides Vista). so you’ll want to spend some time removing it. Battery life looks really good, after charging it reports 8+ hours remaining, although after about 1/2 hour, it then shows 6 hours.

    PROS:
-Very nice display 1366 x 768 res (sweet)
-6 cell battery sticks out the back so the thin profile is maintained
-Still actually squeezes into my 10″ neoprene sleeve/case
-Nice and thin but shiny surface shows fingerprints (just like MSI)

    CONS:
-Single ram slot is occupied by 1 Gig stick, but specs indicate that is max?? (Vista versions ship with 2 Gig)
-Display is very glossy, I kinda prefer the matt finish like MSI.
-Extreme amount of bloatware. Use MSCONFIG to disable all the startup crap.

I’m updating my review. I downloaded a movie from [...] and using their player, the movie plays great – a crip, clear picture and perfectly smooth. Absolutely no jumping or skipping at all. It’s just like watching a good DVD. So I guess the player has more to do with video perfomance than I originally thought. I’m upgrading my rating to 4 stars. My only issue now is the touchpad. It’s way too sensitive. It’s much too easy to click when all you mean to do is move the cursor. I may have to get a usb mouse.
Following is the original review -

The screen on this is great. It’s just the right size for easy travel, which is why I bought it. But the processor is very slow, and so is the graphics card. I bought it so I could use wifi when I travel, get to my emails and also watch movies on planes. It’s fine for browsing and emails and writing notes, etc. Mine came with XP installed. Even with XP, video is very choppy. I watched “Vanilla Sky”, and Tom Cruise jumped around more than he did on the Oprah couch! Videos are watchable, as long as the chopiness doesn’t get to you too much. I can watch it; my nephew can’t. I would imagine that if I had Vista on this, video would be totally unwatchable. From what I’ve read, this is about par for Netbooks; none of them really do videos well. It takes about 78 seconds to start up, after I deleted all the junkware on it and got all the unnecessary applications out of Startup. There is a new Lenovo coming out soon with an NVidia graphics card that supposedly will play as well as a desktop pc. It’s a 12 inch display – still not too big for a netbook (we want these things to be small enough to easily transport). I don’t know when that will be out, and I wanted a netbook right away. There are other netbooks with longer battery life too (I got the six cell battery and get about 7 hours). If video is important to you, wait for the Lenovo to come out. Otherwise this isn’t a bad netbook.

Im typing my Review on my new Acer AO751h. The 11.6″ High Def Screen is FANTASTIC. Big, Bright, PERFECT. Keyboard is FAST and quiet. Construction feels very solid, no creaks or bending. My desktop is a 2.16 Ghz
Core Duo with an ASUS SLI Motherboard, and frankly Im amazed how well this little single core holds its own in comparison. The fact is, if you are doing heavy PROCESSING jobs like Gaming or Video editing, heck yeah a 1.22 Ghz wont cut it. If you are low on cash and want a full fledged all purpose LAPTOP computer, this aint it. You will be Hatin’ it! But for Web Surfing, Music, YouTube, e-mail etc, I find it to be WAY FAST ENOUGH. And compared to OTHER NETBOOKS, and I’ve BEEN shopping them all, this IS the one with all the goodies for the price. Personally, XP, 2gig Ram (I replaced the 1 gig with a 2 gig stick from Amazon for like, $28 ) the Great Keyboard, and the Fab 16 x 9 High Def Screen puts this one ahead of all the others. Absolutely no other complaints, except, oh yes, it IS a fingerprint magnet, BIG WHOOP! Happy Surfing!!
